The main objective of the Centre in the area of
survey research are as follows :

Carry
out field surveys, using statistical sampling techniques, in diverse
areas such as public health including Epidemiology; environment; Socioeconomic;
population etc.

Carry out
research in survey methodology.

Conduct
training programmes in survey and research methodology and use of
statistical software packages.

Publish
technical reports, monographs, relating to the fields of activity
of the Centre.

Exchange
information with other institutions and experts engaged in similar
activities throug seminars, confrences, etc.
- Maintain computerized
data banks.
The
Centre also
offers the
following services to
other institutions / individuals.

Undertaking
field studies and sample surveys on any specific topic needed by
the clients. The services offered by CSRMS include :-
| a) |
Definition
of the problem
Specifying the objectives of research
and Computer (Internet) search for relevant literature on
similar studies carried out elsewhere in the country and abroad.

Developing
the most appropriate survey design along with estimate of
sample size needed for the survey for achieving the specified
objectives.

| c) |
Questionnaire
design
The Centre will develop all the
necessary tools and protocols required for the survey, such
as, schedules/questionnaires, instructions for field workers,
etc. including translation of questionnaire in local languages
and test them in the field before using them in the main survey.

| d) |
Data
collection
The Centre has a panel of well-experienced
investigators who will carry out data collection in the field.
If required we may also recruit suitable field personnel in
accordance with the type and volume of data collection work.
In any case all field personnel will be given thorough training
- both classroom as well as field practical - in the survey
instruments designed for each specific survey topic.

Data
analysis and preparation of technical reports
The Centre has a computer
system with modern software including MS Office, Visual Basic
and a statistical analysis package.
The Centre undertakes data entry with 100 % verification of
data entered and other editing.
Data analysis will be undertaken with the constant supervision
of senior professionals using the most pertinent statistical
methods.
Preparation of final tables and finally reports also will
be undertaken by the centre.
The Centre can also prepare materials for presentation of
the results before an audience.

The centres
experts on the specific topics/field can undertake project evaluation
studies at local and national level.

Market survey
on specific need can be undertaken in collaboration with Management
Division.

Workshop/training
programs can be conducted on Research Methodology with emphasis
on survey methodology, statistics including econometric, demographic
and epidemiological methods with the use of specialized computing
software of statistical applications.

Special
services to post graduate scholars, research scholars and other
researchers at concessional rates.

The
literature search relevant to the research topics through internet could
be provided if suitable key words are provided for the respective research
work.
In order to encourage the research scholars who are not getting any financial
support, fifty percent concession would be provided to them besides free
consultation.
The same concession would also be given for data input and analysis.
